“It was 1998 and this was my first big project in the company and it was the first project where we used Personal Protective Equipment, which consisted of a helmet and a reflective vest.

At first, there was a lot of opposition from the field workers and even the foreman. They gave arguments against it, such as: “it gave them headaches,” “it was very uncomfortable and prevented them from working,” etc.

Until one day when I arrived, the master builder had a deep scratch on his nose and when I asked him, he told me that when he was lowering an electro-welded mesh, it came down on him and the helmet saved him from hurting his head (the helmet had deep grooves in the plastic). From then on he stopped making excuses and continued to demand that all employees wear PPE.”
